Adorable citizen participation in nation branding Iceland
You can’t help but love them. But, following failing banks and an eruption by an unpronounceable volcano, tourism has been slow in Iceland. After the fun Inspired by Iceland video from last year, the Icelanders have launched open invitations to come and participate in typical Icelandic activities with locals in order to reboost its nation image and lure more tourists, even in the wintertime.
According to an AdAge article, London-based creative agency The Brooklyn Brothers teamed with the nation’s tourist board to create an online campaign that connects tourists with citizens eager to show off their nation.
Open invitations on the Inspired by Iceland website include knitting an Icelandic wool sweater, a Northern lights workshop, a ghost tour and a plethora of local culinary delights. Among the 50 or so invitations from locals, even Iceland’s President Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson and Reykjavík’s mayor Jón Gnarr invite people to experience Iceland:

The generosity and good humor in these invitations really make me want to go there!
